It's that time of year. Maybe it's the first hint of warm weather or the abundance of pollen circulating the air. Whatever it is, it has caused the tech world to begin swirling with chatter. The iPhone 5 is coming. And the speculation is never ending.
The only thing that's certain is that nothing will be for sure until the official Apple announcement. Until then, it won't stop us from deciphering the long list of tech rumors.
To start, let's address the biggest rumor of them all: the release date. Reports speculate timelines ranging from June to October, based on production timelines and availability of certain parts.
Although previous iPhone product cycles have been started in June, the iPhone 5 could be completely different. Many suggest September as a realistic guess; though this is the same crowd that said the iPad 2 wouldn't be available until June. Your guess is as good as ours.
And when the iPhone 5 makes its debut, Case-Mate will be ready with its latest collection of cases and accessories. The collection will feature a mixture of styles, including tough protectors and innovative luxuries, which will fit into any lifestyle.
The realistic- what's most likely to show up in the iPhone 5
White Models- The coveted white models, more rare than a Norwegian Ridgeback, are expected to be available for the iPhone 5. Similar to the immediate availability of the white iPad 2 models, the white iPhone 5 model should be ready from day one.
More memory- Users should also expect more internal memory storage than ever before, including the possibility of a 64 GB model.
CDMA Model- Will Verizon users receive the new iPhone 5 at the same time as AT&T? We think yes. Mostly because we can't think of a reason why not.
Same Design- The consensus among the tech world is that the iPhone 5 will have the same general design as the iPhone 4. It may be slightly slimmer with a larger screen. However, the general form factor would remain the same.
Improved Camera/Video Recording- We're hearing rumors of an 8 megapixel camera (!) and HD video recording.
Faster Processor- Like the iPad 2, the iPhone 5 is expected to have an A5 processor and more RAM.
HDMI Output- Just think, your FatBooth photos in HD on your TV. Can it get much better?
NFC Technology- Built-in NFC technology would bring mobile payments directly your iPhone 5. Shopping enthusiasts, take note. This could be dangerous.
The maybes- 50/50
The Cloud- It's the future. All of your internal memory storage would be held in a virtual iTunes cloud, accessible by a wireless or 3G/4G network. Cool concept, but are we quite there yet?
4G/LTE-Debates continue over whether the iPhone 5 will work on the 4G /LTE network. Internet and connectivity speeds would be the fastest yet.
Home Button- Say good-bye to your familiar friend if this rumor holds true. Replaced by a touch sensitive area, there would be no more physical home button.
New Form Factor-Could it be the redesign we've all been waiting for? Rumors include a design based upon the iPad 2 look and feel, including rounded edges.
Battery Life-Avid iPhone users can drain a battery faster than you can send a tweet. Okay, maybe not that fast. But everyone would love a longer lasting battery. We can dream can't we?
Entry Level iPhone- Basic iPhone models that do without internal memory for a less expensive option. Possible we say, but maybe not this time around.
